 JFS June Update From the Principal’s Office

It has been an enjoyable June so far and there is much to come in the next weeks. Students will be dismissed for the summer on Tuesday, June 22 at 12:30. We will have our traditional faculty send off for them at that time. 

Please check the school calendar and web site for all the activities in these closing weeks. Field days, field trips, promotions, and class spotlights for the year are all scheduled.

Due to the uncertainty of federal allotments for next year, staffing has been less than certain for next year. As of this week allotments have been projected and principals meet with the Superintendent on Monday to finalize the arrangements. I will pass along assignments after that. As of right now, we have an open fifth grade and first grade.

We are seeking to replace Mrs. Page in music as she heads for the international schools of the mid-east. Mrs. Page has offered much to our school and we wish her well in this adventure. I am so far pleased with the quality of applicants, and interviews are currently being held.

Our faculty will make great use of the first day after students leave. We will be hosting a presentation on best practice literacy programs. This is part of out RTI plan and you can expect to see further improvements to literacy instruction next year.

NWEA tests are now complete and the initial look is very positive. There is no question that the improvement to math instruction over the past two years is having a measurable impact.

The fifth and sixth grade performance in the all school track meet was fantastic. They have a bright athletic future. 

Falcon Fire was huge. We can estimate the number of attendees at 500+. Does it get any better? This would be a hard community to top for parental and community involvement.

We made some personal appeals to our students to check their behaviors for the month of June as we were seeing a rise in the number of behavioral referrals. They have risen to the challenge and I compliment them on their sense of responsibility and cooperation.
