Ed Good Ed Good has been a woodturner for 11 years, having spent 37 years as a high school math teacher in Massachusetts (“and now finally USING my math.”) This will be his 5th year of participation in the Lovell Fair, where he will be selling his work and demonstrating his turning skills on his lathe. Ed is largely self taught but has been inspired by workshops with Beth Ireland and Will Hunt in Massachusetts, plus past membership in the Lexington, MA Arts and Crafts Society, the Central New England Woodturners, the American Association of Woodturners (AAW), and the Mount Washington Valley Woodturners (MWVW, founder and currently President). Inspiration and direction have also been gained by attendance for 9 consecutive years at the annual Utah Woodturning Symposium, the Yankee Woodturning Symposium, and the occasional AAW symposium. In the recent past, his work has sold in the League store in North Conway, the State of the Art Gallery in Jackson, NH, and the gallery of the Lexington, MA Arts and Crafts Society. Native New Hampshire and Maine hard woods are his favorite raw materials (cherry burl, birdseye and “tiger” maple, oak, ash), in addition to a few favorite imported woods. The native black cherry burl in particular forms the source of his signature pieces, namely closed hollow forms which present the burl wood in all its natural beauty, as well as requiring very advanced turning skills and meticulous finishing techniques. When not turning, Ed shares his woodturning knowledge by volunteering in the wood working courses at Kennett High School, and by teaching Beginner and Intermediate Woodturning courses in the Adult Education Program at KHS. | ||
